Why Gantt Charts?

Link Options in Gantt Charts

A benefit of Gantt charts is seeing which tasks are linked together. That way it's easy to tell what needs to be done when and in what order. You’ve got several link options to choose from: auto-link, manual link, and bulk link. This article will explain each one.

You’ve just added several tasks to a new project, and you want to link them in your Gantt chart. Consider using Auto-Link. It automatically creates links (dependencies) between tasks, as long as there aren’t existing task links. Plus, it’ll definitely save you some time!

Choose to link tasks individually, as shown in the image above. Or link tasks by group, as shown in the image below.

Manual Link

You can manually link tasks with other tasks. Hover over the end of one subtask, click on the white circle that appears, and drag your cursor to the subtask you want to link it to.

For example, in the image below, we connect Present to Version 1 by creating a link between them.

In fact, you may use the best of both worlds. Use Auto-Link to create the initial links. Then, manually make any tweaks.

Bulk Link

Use Bulk Actions to “bulk link” selected tasks with a start to finish link (ie, at the end of one task, another will start). These tasks are linked in order from top to bottom.

The idea is simple: in Bulk Actions, select the tasks you want to link together. Then, click Link and BigTime will automatically link your selected tasks.
